I am a European trapped inside an American’s body and I tried to transition by moving to Germany. One time I wore a suit to church in the USA and a lady told me I looked very “international”, whatever the hell that meant, so I thought that perhaps this transition was long overdue.
I just graduated from McGill University in Montréal, Canada, having studied Russian/Cold War history, Russian language, and political science. All this means I am essentially useless to the job market because only computer skills matter to most people anymore. Unfortunately, all I have to show for my three and a half years of drudgery is a general understanding of how the world ended up the way it is and the ability to explain why FOX News and MSNBC are almost always wrong when they say something about Putin. Which is useless to employers for some reason. I’m sorry I actually learnt something instead of just training for the job market.
I have a very wide array of interests, each of which takes up far too much of my time. Just to give you a taste, my music collection consists mostly of jazz, classical music, and thrash metal. Second-tier music includes Tango tunes from Argentina and Finland, German polka music, Russian romances, Cajun music, Zydeco, Blues, and East German punk. There’s a Cantonese opera on there somewhere as well.
My friends seem to think my writing is good, so I thought why not make them jealous of the fact I have no idea what the next few months holds and write about it as if it were certain!
I live in Delaware presently, as I have left Germany, in order to find work back home while I wait for graduate schools to deny me.
I write for The Canadian Daily on occasion, usually on the subject of American politics and Russian politics.
